Qazybek Beken

Systems thinker. Builder.

I build forecasting tools, public air-quality data platforms, and AI assistants. My experience spans enterprise data strategy, production software, and the decisions that connect them.

02 / Enterprise work

From business question to working software.

Full experience
Jun - Aug 2026

Guidant Financial

Data & AI Solutions Architect

Built an Azure OpenAI observability service and rolled out tracing across 10 .NET applications. AI-assisted analysis reduced Azure infrastructure cost by 15%; a new delivery workflow paired generated code with independent verification across 12 repositories.

2019 - 2020, 2022 - 2025

PwC Kazakhstan

Data, Analytics and AI Lead; Manager

Led the data workstream for a $176.4M fintech transaction across 10+ source systems, location intelligence for 320+ retail sites, and predictive maintenance that reduced unplanned downtime by 25%.

2020 - 2022

Media.Monks

Data Scientist

Built six production ML models for telecom, automotive, and marketplace clients in Southeast Asia, contributing to a 30% improvement in marketing ROI and an 11% increase in conversion.

Guidant / Architecture & validation design

Greenlight: rules first, AI for the exceptions.

At Guidant Financial, I designed an AI-assisted validation layer for retirement-plan data, with deterministic controls and an in-tenant AI boundary defined before implementation.

Alternative
Let a model review every record and decide whether it passes.
Design choice
Keep explicit validation in deterministic controls; reserve in-tenant AI for the cases those controls cannot resolve.
Reason
Routine pass-or-fail decisions needed a repeatable rule a reviewer could trace, rather than a model judgment that could change between runs.
Trade-off
The rule layer still needs maintenance. AI assistance does not remove ownership of the validation rules or unresolved cases.

Strategy & architecture

Feb - Jun 2026

Alatau City Authority

Data & AI strategy consultant

Authored the Data & AI Development Plan, Operations Manual, architecture papers, and executive presentations for an AI-native city.

Defined data ownership, sharing, and AI governance frameworks, alongside technical concepts for digital twins, geospatial data, knowledge graphs, and semantic exchange. Strategy and design work, not a deployed city platform.

2026

AstanaDX

Knowledge-graph architecture

A decision guide for adding a semantic layer to a data marketplace, from competency questions and ontology governance to validation, access control, and consumption.

Compared property graphs, RDF stores, and hybrid patterns; defined a phased path from a minimal ontology to SHACL-validated production use.

03 / Experiments & research

Questions worth building around.

05 / Background

Kazakhstan to Berkeley.

I grew up in Kazakhstan and have worked across Astana, Seattle, Singapore, Almaty, and Berkeley. Outside the work, I have finished the Almaty Half Marathon nine times, including a sub-two-hour run.
